The Swan That
Forgot to Smile

The Swan That Forgot to Smile / Alarch Heb Wên is an immersive children's theatre experience for ages 4+, developed in separate Welsh and English-language versions.

Set around a forgotten, polluted lake, the story follows Elin, a curious neurodivergent young girl who discovers that a stationary swan pedalo is alive, and very grumpy. The swan has forgotten how to smile, weighed down by loneliness and the decline of its home.

Through playful physical theatre, puppetry and storytelling, Elin and the swan gradually help one another, sharing experiences of losing their smiles and exploring playful ways of responding to big feelings. Elin invites the swan and audience to join her through breathing, movement, games and shared problem-solving.

The audience becomes part of the story by helping clean the polluted lake, removing litter and gradually revealing colour, life and magic beneath it.

As the lake transforms, so does the swan, connecting care for ourselves with care for the world around us.
